The Safeti Podcast ‘Connecting Health, Safety & Environment’
If you are involved in Health and Safety, Environment or anything in between, make sure to join us for some laid back learning!
In Episode 21 of The Safeti Podcast, we catch up with Andrea Baker, the HOP Mentor, for the second podcast session on Human and Organisational Performance.
If you’ve never heard of the terms Human and Organizational Performance, or HOP, or the New View, or Safety Differently, you’ve come the right place!
In short, HOP is an industrial operating philosophy that recognizes safety (and quality) as an emergent property of the larger system. Good performance is not the absence of errors (human error is inevitable), it’s the presence of defenses (Conklin).
To embrace this philosophy, Andrea believes the profession needs a paradigm shift in thought. To be more precise, we need to move away from looking for fault in our people, and towards looking for weaknesses in our system; to “become less surprised by error, and more interested in learning“- Edwards.
If you haven’t listened to the first session, you can do that here!
For this, the second part, Andrea goes into the ways in which we can apply the principles in a practical context.
Make sure to keep your ears to the ground for the challenge at the end!
